PERSPECTIVES IN SPIRITUAL DIRECTION AND DISCERNMENT (PSDD) (3 units)

This is an intensive process-oriented program for those called to engage or are already engaged in the ministry of spiritual accompaniment in community animation, formation and vocation direction.
The Program is designed:
1. to develop perspectives in spiritual direction and in discernment
2. to explore the nature, history, essentials and dynamics of the spiritual direction relationship
3. to learn some basic skills necessary for spiritual direction
4. to surface a self-assessment regarding the graced and privileged service and ministry of spiritual accompaniment.
Duration of the Program. The program will cover a total of 15 days on a lived-in basis, with Sundays as off, and the two inclusive Saturday mornings as time to work on cases. In addition to the presentations, there will be readings and video showing in the evenings, and opportunities for applying the material taken up. There will also be small group supervision sessions during the course. Those who cannot be present for the entire duration of the program need not apply. Selection of Participants. This program is open to religious and lay men and women who are and/or will be engaged in the ministry of spiritual direction. Those already involved in the ministry will be given priority in the selection process. The applicants must be recommended by their major superior or director. The required questionnaire and application form must be completed as a prerequisite for acceptance.
Prerequisites. The following are prerequisites for acceptance to the program:
1. Facility in prayer and an ongoing personal prayer life
2. At least 30 years old (those below 30 will be considered on a case-to-case basis).
3. Must have sufficient health and stamina to participate in all the intensive processes and activities.
4. Ability to listen
5. Preferably have been engaged in the ministry of “doing” spiritual direction for at least one year.
6. Preferably have had the experience of going through personal spiritual direction.
7. Preferably have undergone an individually guided retreat or a directed retreat.
8. Proficiency in spoken English (this is important in order to understand and be understood as director and directee in the spiritual direction process).
9. For those whose first language is not English, assessment in oral/written comprehension in the English language will be required. (Please contact the ICLA office for further arrangement.)
10. Preferably have a background in basic counseling.
11. Must have the assurance that s/he will be involved in the ministry as a spiritual director for the coming year.
12. Openness and willingness to participate actively in the different processes and activities.
Numbers: Since the program involves process and supervision, the number of participants will be limited only to 26. Therefore, not all applicants can be accepted to the program. We will limit the number of participants coming from the same congregation to only two.
Fee: Seminar (handouts included) – P 6,000.00; Room/Board (single w/o aircon) – P12,750.00; (double occupancy w/o aircon) P 11,050.00
